About

Hot and Sour Soup is listed as pork from China. The steps below are the imported TheMealDB method, not an editorial rewrite. Times shown are typical kitchen times, because the source method did not list minutes.

Ingredients

Scaling multiplies the written quantities. Baking still prefers a scale.

Steps

  1. Step 1

MAKING THE SOUP In a wok add chicken broth and wait for it to boil. Next add salt, sugar, sesame seed oil, white pepper, hot pepper sauce, vinegar and soy sauce and stir for few seconds.

  2. Step 2

Add Tofu, mushrooms, black wood ear mushrooms to the wok. To thicken the sauce, whisk together 1 Tablespoon of cornstarch and 2 Tablespoon of water in a bowl and slowly add to your soup until it's the right thickness.

  3. Step 3

Next add 1 egg slightly beaten with a knife or fork and add it to the soup and stir for 8 seconds Serve the soup in a bowl and add the bbq pork and sliced green onions on top.

Substitutions

  • pork mushroom

Chopped mushrooms plus a splash of soy. Different dish, same comfort.

  • chicken tofu

Press firm tofu, marinate as you would the chicken, and cook until browned. This is an adaptation, not the original dish.

  • onion shallot

Shallots are sweeter. Use the same volume, or a little extra onion if that is what you have.
